Images have been released from the new production of THE MADNESS OF GEORGE III, currently playing at Nottingham Playhouse. The title role in this production is taken by Sherlock and League of Gentleman star Mark Gatiss.
In this Alan Bennett revival, Gatiss plays the tormented monarch, plagued by psychological problems during his reign. Gatiss is joined in the lead roles by Adrian Scarborough as Dr Willis and Debra Gillett as Queen Charlotte.
The play boasts an ensemble cast featuring: Nicholas Bishop as the Prime Minister, Wilf Scolding as the Prince of Wales, Harry Kershaw as the Duke of York, Sara Powell as Lady Pembroke, Nadia Albina as Captain Fitzroy, Jack Holden as Captain Greville, Amanda Hadingue as Charles Fox and Stephanie Jacob as Sheridan, Louise Jameson as Dr Warren, Andrew Joshi as Lord Dundas, Billy Postlethwaite as Braun, Jessica Temple as Papandiek, David Hounslow as Thurlow and Adam Karim as Fortnum.
Bennett’s moving and funny play won numerous awards when it premiered in 1991, spawning a 1994 film version starring Nigel Hawthorne.
This revival is headed by Nottingham Playhouse AD Adam Penford. The production features design by Robert Jones, lighting by Richard Howell, sound by Tom Gibbons and movement by Lizzi Gee.
The play concludes its run at Nottingham Playhouse 24th November. The revival will be broadcast to cinemas around the world by NT Live on 20th November.
