A brand new production of WEST SIDE STORY is to run at the Leicester Curve theatre over Christmas 2019.
The musical, which is to be helmed by artistic director Nikolai Foster, will feature choreography from Ellen Kane and musical supervision from Sarah Travis.
Speaking on the musical, director Foster and chief executive Chris Stafford said: ‘We couldn’t be more excited to tackle this masterpiece on our stage – a stage designed for emotionally charged, epic plays which explore the human condition.’
‘Since we started working together at Curve, WEST SIDE STORY has been a show we longed to produce. There couldn’t be a better musical to bring people together and introduce new audiences the joy of theatre; regardless of class, culture or age, WEST SIDE STORY will be the perfect production to celebrate Christmas at Curve.”
Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurent’s 1957 musical, based on Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET, follows two rival gangs in New York City. The iconic score features songs such as ‘Tonight’, ‘America’ and ‘Maria’.
WEST SIDE STORY runs at Curve between 23rd November 2019 and 11th January 2020.
This announcement comes shortly after the Royal Exchange in Manchester revealed they will also be presenting a new revival of the musical in Spring 2019.
