The revival of Sam Shepard’s 1980 play marks the first time it is performed in London’s West End. Considered a modern American classic, this run of TRUE WEST also poignantly marks the first Sam Shepard production to be performed in the UK following his death last Summer.

The play is led by Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington in the role of Austin. TRUE WEST marks the Emmy nominated star’s return to the West End following DOCTOR FAUSTUS back in 2016. His previous stage credits include POSH at the Royal Court and WAR HORSE at the National Theatre. He performs opposite Johnny Flynn in the role of Lee. Flynn’s TV credits include Lovesick and Genius. Flynn last performed in London in Martin McDonagh’s HANGMEN to much critical acclaim. Flynn, frontman of Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit also provides original music for this revival.

Harington and Flynn are joined in the play by Madeleine Potter as Mom and Donald Sage Mackay as Saul Kimmer.

TRUE WEST is directed by HANGMEN’S Matthew Dunster. It will feature set and costume design from Jon Bausor, lighting by Joshua Carr and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.

Set in the heat of the California desert, TRUE WEST follows young screenwriter Austin, working on a movie script sold to Hollywood producer Saul Kimmer. Discontented to watch from sidelines, Austin’s unpredictable, dangerous brother Lee returns with his own movie pitch to Kimmer, in a move that has far reaching consequences. Pitting brother against brother, Shepard’s iconic play exposes the cracks in the American Dream.

TRUE WEST runs at the Vaudeville Theatre for a limited season from 23rd November to 23rd February.
