Katharine McPhee to Star in WAITRESS in the West End

It’s been announced that Katharine McPhee will play the lead role of Jenna in the West End transfer of WAITRESS.

The Broadway hit, written by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, has its West End premiere at the Adelphi Theatre from 8th February, where it is currently booking at the venue until 25th May.

McPhee, an American actor and songwriter, is making her West End debut in the production, having previously played the same role on Broadway this year. McPhee is best known to audiences for her roles on the NBC series Smash, and the CBS drama Scorpion.

WAITRESS, which is still currently running on Broadway, is based on the 2007 film of the same name that starred Keri Russell. It follows Jenna, a woman in a small American town with a talent for baking pies with plans to compete in a contest. These plans are hindered when she unexpectedly discovers she’s pregnant.

WAITRESS opened on Broadway Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016 following a tryout in Boston. Directed by Diane Paulus and starring Jessie Mueller, the piece went on to be nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The same production transfers to the Adelphi early next year. More casting for the show is still to be announced.
