NINE NIGHT is the debut play from actor/writer Natasha Gordon, who recently picked up the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Emerging Playwright. Gordon’s smash hit play opened at the National Theatre’s Dorfman in April 2018. Directed by Roy Alexander Weise, the production’s transfer to Trafalgar Studios marks the first play written by Black British female playwright to be presented in the West End.

In addition to writing the piece, Natasha Gordon also joins the production in an acting role, playing the role of Lorraine. She is joined by Oliver Alvin-Wilson as Robert, Michelle Greenidge as Trudy, Hattie Ladbury as Sophie, Rebekah Murrell as Anita and Cecilia Noble as Aunt Maggie who return to the roles following the run at the National this year. Karl Collins completes the West End cast as Uncle Vince.

Directed by Roy Alexander Weise, NINE NIGHT is a touching and exuberantly funny exploration of the rituals of family. Gloria is gravely sick. When her time comes, the celebration begins; the traditional Jamaican Nine Night Wake. But for Gloria’s children and grandchildren, marking her death with a party that lasts over a week is a test. Nine rum-fuelled nights of music, food, storytelling and laughter – and an endless parade of mourners.

The production features design by Rajha Shakiry, lighting by Paule Constable, sound  by George Dennis and movement direction by Shelley Maxwell.

NINE NIGHT is currently in previews at Trafalgar Studios and is booking until 23rd February 2019. Opening night is scheduled for 6th December.
