The Royal Exchange Theatre has announced full casting for its upcoming production of Bertolt Brecht’s MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN, opening at the Manchester theatre in February.
Joining the previously announced Julie Hesmondhalgh as Mother Courage will be; Rose Ayling-Ellis, Simeon Blake-Hall, Hedydd Dylan, Conor Glean, Colm Gormley, Kevin McMonagle, Tachia Newall, Nick Pynn and Guy Rhys.
The new production is a collaboration between the Royal Exchange and acclaimed company Headlong, and will be directed by Headlong associate director Amy Hodge. Anna Jordan, whose previous plays include YEN at the Royal Exchange, has adapted Brecht’s 1939 play bringing it up to date.
Hesmondhalgh, an associate artist of the Royal Exchange, leads the produciton following her performances in Manchester including THE ALMIGHTY SOMETIMES, WIT and THE GREATEST PLAY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD… Hesmondhalgh is best known to audiences for her role as Hayley Cropper in ITV soap Coronation Street, alongside acclaimed roles in Cucumber, Happy Valley and Broadchurch.
MOTHER COURAGE features direction by Amy Hodge with design by Joanna Scotcher, lighting by Lizzie Powell, sound by Carolyn Downing, movement by Raquel Meseguer and Christian From with musical composition and direction by Jim Fortune.
MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN runs at the Royal Exchange Theatre from 8th February and will run until 2nd March. Tickets are on sale now.
