Full casting has been announced for the major upcoming revival of Githa Sowerby’s RUTHERFORD AND SON, opening at the Sheffield Crucible in February.
Owen Teale, best known to audiences for his role as Alliser Thorne in Game of Thrones, leads the revival as Rutherford. He will be joined in the production by Esh Alladi, Laura Elphinstone, Brian Lonsdale, Marian McLoughlin, Ciarán Owens, Lizzie Roper and Danusia Samal.
Written and set in 1912, Sowerby’s classic play follows Rutherford, a ruthless businessman and father who suppresses his children’s ambitions. The play, originally assumed to be written by a man, launched Sowerby into a feminist icon overnight when the play ran in the West End in 1912. Sheffield Theatre associate Caroline Steinbeis directs the new production, following her regional premiere production of LOVE AND INFORMATION at Sheffield in Summer 2019.
The production features design by Lucy Osborne, lighting by Johanna Town, composition by Oliver Vibrans, sound design by Nick Greenhill and casting by Vicky Richardson.
RUTHERFORD AND SON runs at the Sheffield Crucible from 8th February to 23rd February. Tickets are on sale now.
