It’s been announced that Joy Wilkinson’s THE SWEET SCIENCE OF BRUISING is to transfer to Whitechapel’s Wilton’s Music Hall this Summer.
The piece, which premiered to acclaim at Southwark Playhouse in 2018, follows a group of female boxers in 1869. The play transfers to Wilton’s, a restored Victorian music hall in East London, from 7th to 29th June, with previews from the 5th June.
Writer Joy Wilkinson said: ‘From the very beginning, I had this fantasy about staging the play at Wilton’s, and I’m beyond thrilled that it’s finally become a reality. Wilton’s is the perfect setting, it opened shortly before our story begins and is exactly the kind of place where you would find our characters’.
The play features direction by Kirsty Patrick Ward with fight direction by Kate Waters, design by Anna Reid, sound design and composition by Max Perryment and lighting by Peter Harrison.
THE SWEET SCIENCE OF BRUISING previews at Wilton’s Music Hall from 5th June with opening night scheduled for 7th June. It wil then run to 29th June. Tickets are on sale now.
