Further casting has been announced for the upcoming revival of SWEENEY TODD at Liverpool Everyman.
Joining the previously announced Liam Robin as Sweeney Todd will be: Kacey Ainsworth as Mrs Lovett, Paul Duckworth as Judge Turpin, Keziah Joseph as Johanna Barker, Dean Nolan as Pirelli, Bryan Parry as Anthony, Shiv Rabheru as Tobias and Mark Rice-Oxley as The Beadle. Further cast members are still to be announced.
Director Nick Bagnall said: ‘Most productions of SWEENEY TODD have around 25 to 30 cast members, but our ensemble will include just nine talented actors who can sing for this production. Adding to the fact that we will be performing it in the round, this will be stripped-back, rough, hard-edged, soulful and a show tailor-made for Everyman audiences’.
Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s musical thriller premiered on Broadway in 1979 before transferring to London the following year, picking up both the Tony and Olivier for Best Musical. It’s since been revived on Broadway and in the West End numerous times with performers including Michael Ball, Patti LuPone, Emma Thompson, Bryn Terfel and Imelda Staunton appearing in the show’s leading roles. The musical version of SWEENEY TODD was adapted into a movie in 2007 directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
The Liverpool revival of SWEENEY TODD is directed by Nick Bagnall and features design by Michael Vale and Kirsty Barlow, sound by Ian Davies and musical direction by Tarek Merchant.
SWEENEY TODD runs at Liverpool Everyman from 12th April to 18th May. Tickets are on sale now.
