It’s been announced that the hit Dolly Parton musical 9 TO 5 will extend its West End run into 2020.
9 TO 5, currently running at London’s Savoy Theatre, has released an extra 300,000 tickets, extending its run in the West End through 4th April 2020.
Parton said: ‘I couldn’t think of a better date (9/5) to announce that the West End run of the show will be extending in to 2020 with a further 300,000 tickets now on sale, that’s almost more tickets than I have rhinestones on my outfits!’
The London production, originally slated to run to 31st August 2019, currently stars Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies, Natalie McQueen, Bonnie Langford and Brian Conley in the principal roles.
In addition to the West End production, a new UK and Ireland tour is set to launch at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre in September 2019. The newly announced London extension means that the two productions will run concurrently.
Directed by Jeff Calhoun, 9 TO 5 is based on the 1980 movie that starred Dolly Parton herself. The musical premiered in Los Angeles in 2008 before transferring to Broadway the following year. Although it received a record breaking 15 Drama Desk Award nominations that year, its Broadway run was short lived. 9 TO 5 made its way over the pond on a UK tour that took place in 2012.
9 TO 5 features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. The Savoy production features direction by Jeff Calhoun, choreography by Lisa Stevens, design by Tom Rogers, lighting by Howard Hudson, musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Mark Crossland, musical direction by Andrew Hilton and casting by Victoria Roe.
