Full Casting Announced for Idris Elba and Kwame Kwei-Armah’s TREE at MIF and Young Vic

Full casting has been announced for the Idris Elba and Kwame Kwei-Armah musical TREE, performing at Manchester International Festival and London’s Young Vic this summer.

Joining the previously announced Alfred Enoch as will be Christopher Bradley, Lucy Briggs-Owen, Sinéad Cusack, Kurt Edyiawan, Anna-Kay Alicia Gayle, Joan Iyiola, Anthony Matsena, Daniella May, Patrice Naiambana, Mbulelo Ndabeni and Andile Sotiya.

TREE, directed by Young Vic Artistic Director Kwei-Armah, is inspired by Elba’s album Mi Mandela. Elba released the album in 2014 prompted by his performance as Nelson Mandela in the film Long Walk to Freedom.

The piece, a blend of drama, music and dance follows Kaleo (Alfred Enoch), in his journey into the heart and soul of contemporary South Africa. The production will see the audience standing, with the performance unfolding around the space.

TREE features designs by Jon Bausor, choreography by Gregory Maqoma, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Paul Arditti and video design by Duncan McLean.

TREE runs at the Manchester International Festival from 29th June to 13th July, before transferring to London’s Young Vic from 29th July to 24th August. Tickets are on sale.
