It’s been announced that Lucie Jones and Ashley Roberts are to join the West End cast of WAITRESS from 17th June.
Jones, whose theatre credits include leading roles in LEGALLY BLONDE, RENT and THE WEDDING SINGER, takes over the lead role of Jenna from Katharine McPhee. Jones rose to prominence in 2009 after appearing on The X Factor and more recently made headlines representing Britain in the Eurovision song contest in 2017.
Roberts, who makes her West End debut in the production as Dawn, temporarily takes over the role from Laura Baldwin, who returns to WAITRESS at the end of summer. Roberts is known for being a former member of The Pussycat Dolls, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. She is famous to UK audiences for appearing in the reality TV shows I’m A Celebrity… and Strictly Come Dancing.
Jones and Roberts join David Hunter as Dr Pomatter, Marisha Wallace as Becky, Peter Hannah as Earl and Jack McBrayer as Ogie in the principal cast.
The Broadway hit, written by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, has its West End premiered at the Adelphi Theatre in February. WAITRESS, which is still currently running on Broadway, is based on the 2007 film of the same name that starred Keri Russell. It follows Jenna, a woman in a small American town with a talent for baking pies with plans to compete in a contest. These plans are hindered when she unexpectedly discovers she’s pregnant.
WAITRESS opened on Broadway Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016 following a tryout in Boston. Directed by Diane Paulus and starring Jessie Mueller, the piece went on to be nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The same production now plays at the Adelphi.
WAITRESS is directed by Diane Paulus with choreography by Lorin Latarro, lighting by Ken Billington and designs by Scott Pask.
WAITRESS is currently booking at London’s Adelphi Theatre to 19th October. Tickets are on sale now.
