Images have been released offering a first look at Tanika Gupta’s adaptation of Ibsen’s A DOLL’S HOUSE, currently in previews at London’s Lyric Hammersmith.

Directed by the Lyric’s Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan, Gupta’s adaption transplants the world of A DOLL’S HOUSE to 1879 Calcutta, during British colonial rule. Gupta’s reimagining refocuses the themes of the play to the effects of British colonialism, and female perspectives on ownership and race.
Anjana Vasan (RUTHERFORD AND SON at National Theatre, SUMMER AND SMOKE at Almeida and West End) leads the piece as Niru (Nora in Ibsen’s original). Vasan is joined in the production by Arinder Sadhra as Uma, Assad Zaman as Kaushik Das, Colin Tierney as Dr Rank, Elliot Cowan as Tom Helmer and Tripti Tripuraneni as Mrs Lahiri.
A DOLL’S HOUSE features designs by Lily Arnold, lighting design by Kevin Treacy, sound design by Gregory Clarke, musical compositions by Arun Ghosh, choreography by Gauri Sharma Tripathi, associate choreography by Shivani Sethia and casting by Stuart Burt CDG.
A DOLL’S HOUSE is currently previewing at London’s Lyric Hammersmith prior to officially opening 11th September. The production runs to 5th October 2019. Tickets are on sale now.
