Mischief Theatre has announced today that their two smash-hit West End productions THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG and THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY are to extend their open-ended runs.
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, currently running at the Duchess Theatre, announces the news on the 5th anniversary of the show’s opening in the West End. The show follows the hapless Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they attempt to stage a murder mystery. The production, written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, premiered at London’s fringe space the Old Red Lion Theatre in 2012 before touring the UK and playing a limited run at the West End’s Trafalgar Studios. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG found a permanent home at the Duchess Theatre in 2014 and won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Since then, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG has been seen by more than two million people, playing in over 30 countries. The production transferred to Broadway in 2017, playing for almost two years and now currently plays Off-Broadway in New York.
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG features direction by Mark Bell, set design by Nigel Hook, lighting design by Ric Mountjoy, sound design by Andy Johnson and costumes by Roberto Surace.
THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY, once again written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, has played at the West End’s Criterion Theatre since April 2016. The play follows a botched attempt to rob a bank. THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY received a nomination for Best New Comedy at the 2017 Olivier Awards and has since performed in France, and around the UK on tour.
