James Graham’s Quiz Announces UK and Ireland Tour

James Graham’s QUIZ is to embark on a major UK and Ireland tour, opening in Bromley in August 2020.

Based on the true story of the “Coughing Major” Charles Ingram, Graham’s play originally premiered at the Minerva Theatre at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017. It then went on to enjoy a hit West End run at the Noël Coward Theatre the following year, where it was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. The original productions starred Gavin Spokes as Charles Ingram, with Kier Charles as Chris Tarrant (for which he was an Olivier Award-nominee).

Directed by Daniel Evans, Graham’s play is inspired by the true story of Charles Ingram, and the coughing scandal that controversially won him £1,000,000 in 2001 on an episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Graham’s other West End credits include THIS HOUSE, INK and LABOUR OF LOVE. Meanwhile, Evans’ directorial credits include SHOW BOAT at Sheffield Crucible and the New London Theatre, and THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA at the Southbank Centre and in the United States.

The upcoming tour of QUIZ will also coincide with Graham’s television adaptation of the story. Soon to be broadcast by ITV, the TV adaptation stars Matthew Macfayden as Charles Ingram, Sian Clifford as Diana Ingram, and Michael Sheen as Chris Tarrant.

The UK and Ireland tour of QUIZ opens at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 24th August 2020, before visiting Canterbury, Leicester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Dublin, Southampton, Nottingham, Bath, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Inverness. The production will continue its tour into 2021, with further dates and venues still to be announced.

QUIZ features direction by Evans with Sean Linnen,. The tour features designs by Robert Jones, lighting by Tim Lutkin, music and sound by Ben and Max Ringham, video design by Tim Reid and movement direction by Naomi Said.
