The West End production of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is to reopen at London’s Aldwych Theatre next month.
Based on the life of legendary recording artist Tina Turner, the musical will reopen in the West End on 28th July and is currently booking until June 2022. Sunday performances have also been added for the new booking period.
Members of the original London cast, Aisha Jawando and Jammy Kasongo, will lead the cast as Tina and Ike Turner. Chanel Haynes joins the cast as the alternate Tina Turner in her West End stage debut. Further casting is still to be announced.
Tina tells the life story of the legendary Tina Turner, focusing on her tumulus early years, her relationship with her first husband Ike Turner, and her rise to stardom. The musical premiered in London in April 2018 and received three Olivier Award-nominations including Best New Musical. The production transferred to Broadway in November 2019, with subsequent productions in Hamburg and Utrecht. A new production in Madrid will open this autumn.
Tine is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. TINA features choreography by Anthony van Laast, set and costume design by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
Tina Turner said: “Music has had the power to pull me out of my darkest moments and rejoice during my happiest. To announce the re-opening of our West End show, where my musical had its premiere, means so much to me.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Tina family and our fans from around the world for their continued love and support during these unprecedented times. Let my story be a celebration, a reminder of our resilience and our ability to overcome hardship together.”
