Casting announced for Bagdad Cafe at The Old Vic

Full casting has been announced for Emma Rice’s upcoming stage adaptation of Bagdad Cafe, premiering at The Old Vic this summer.

The ensemble cast of Bagdad Cafe features: Nandi Bhebhe (A Monster Calls), Le Gateau Chocolat (Sweet Charity), Bettrys Jones (Wise Children), Patrycja Kujawska (Wise Children), Nadine Lee (This House), Sandra Marvin (Waitress), Kandaka Moore (Twelfth Night), Renell Shaw, Gareth Snook (Phantom of the Opera) and Ewan Wardrop (A Monster Calls).

Adapted and directed by Emma Rice, the show is based the 1987 film of the same name by German filmmakers Percy and Eleonore Adlon. Bagdad Cafe tells the story of two women thrown together by chance in a motel cafe on America’s famous Route 66. The production is a collaboration between Rice’s company Wise Children and The Old Vic.

Bagdad Cafe features compositions by Ian Ross, lighting design by Malcolm Rippeth, broadcast sound and video design by Simon Baker, choreograpy by Etta Murfitt, musical direction by Nadine Lee, voice coaching by Joel Trill, and associate direction Laura Keefe.

Bagdad Cafe plays to in-person audiences from 17th July, with the final performances also being streamed digitally via Old Vic: In Camera from 25th to 28th August. Tickets are on sale now.
