Full casting has been announced for the upcoming revival of Bernstein’s Wonderful Town at Opera Holland Park.
Running from 1st to 3rd July, the musical revival stars Louise Dearman (Wicked) and Siubhan Harrison (Guys and Dolls) as sisters Ruth and Eileen Sherwood. The pair will be joined by: Ashley Daniels as Appopolous, Roger Dipper as Frank Lippencott, Tamsin Dowsett as Mrs Wade, Gregory Haney as Speedy Valentine, Emma Harrold as Helen, Jason Kajdi as Officer Lonigan, Alex Lodge as Chick Clark, Ako Mitchell as Bob Baker, Billy Nevers as The Wreck, Jade Albertsen and Giles Surridge.
Playing for just four performances at the West London park, Wonderful Town tells the story of two sisters who arrive in New York in the 1930s and go on a series of mad-cap adventures through the Big Apple. After a pre-Broadway tryout in Philadelphia, the musical premiered on Broadway in 1953 – where it won the Tony Award for Best Musical that year.
Wonderful Town features music by the legendary Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story) and features book by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov, and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
The Holland Park revival will be directed by Alastair Knights, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, musical direction by Alex Parker and orchestrations by Jason Carr. The show is produced Quick Fantastic in association with Opera Holland Park.
Wonderful Town runs at Opera Holland Park from 1st to 3rd July. Tickets go on sale 27th May.
