Open Air Theatre’s Fiddler on the Roof to transfer to Barbican; UK and Ireland tour to follow

It’s been announced that the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre acclaimed revival of Fiddler on the Roof will transfer to the Barbican Theatre this summer, followed by a UK and Ireland tour.

The new production, directed by Jordan Fein and choreographed by Julia Cheng, will play at the Barbican Theatre for an eight-week season from 24 May to 19 July. Tickets go on sale this Thursday, 23 January.

The classic Broadway musical follows life in the village of Anatevka in 1905, where Tevye, a Jewish milkman, grapples with changing traditions as his daughters challenge his beliefs. The production features iconic songs such as “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.”

Drew McOnie and James Pidgeon, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre chief executives, said: “As part of an ongoing commitment to touring our work beyond Regent’s Park, we could not be more thrilled that our production of Fiddler on the Roof, created by a visionary team under the leadership of Jordan Fein, is getting a further life following its record-breaking run at the Open Air Theatre last summer. We’re really looking forward to working with our producing partners to take this wonderful production to even more audiences across the country.”

Following its summer run at the Barbican, Fiddler on the Roof will embark on an extensive UK and Ireland tour.

The tour opens at the Bromley Churchill Theatre on 24 July, with stops in Leeds, Belfast, Norwich, Nottingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, High Wycombe, Liverpool, Southend, Dublin, Manchester, Eastbourne, Canterbury, Cardiff, and Sunderland, where it concludes on 29 November.

Casting for the transfer and tour has yet to be announced.
