TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL Extends West End Run to June 2020

It’s been announced that TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL will extend it’s West End run at the Aldwych Theatre to June 2020.

Based on the life of legendary musician Tina Turner, the production, which opened in London in April 2018, will release an additional 200,000 tickets, taking the run of the production through to 27th June 2020. Tickets for the extension are on sale today.

From 23rd September, current alternate Aisha Jawando will take over the role of Tina Turner full-time. Meanwhile, current London Tina Nkeki Obi-Melekwe joins the original Broadway production to alternate the title role alongside Adrienne Warren.

Ashley Zhangazha will continue in the lead role of Ike Turner alongside Madeline Appiah as Tina’s mother Zelma, Irene Myrtle Forrester as Tina’s Grandmother GG and Howard Gossington as Record Producer Phil Spector and Lyricist Terry Britten. Francesca Jackson, Ava Brennan, Jammy Kasongo, Edward Bourne and Oscar Batterham round out the principal cast.

The cast is composed of: Daniella Bowen, Chloe Chambers, Joelle Dyson, Lejaun Sheppard, Joseph Richardson, Kibong Tanji, Jayme-Lee Zanoncelli, Cameron Bernard Jones, Ashlee Irish, Gavin Alex, Derek Aidoo, Joshua Da Costa, Amandla Elynah, Hannah Jay-Allan, Angela Marie Hurst, Leisha Mollyneaux and Samuel J. Weir. From 20th September, the children’s cast will compose Miah Hasselbaink, Athea Andi, Ayani Lingibe-Ajavo, Mimi Etete-Edge, Perola Da Cunha, Jasmine Djazel, Cameron Mukasa-Brown, Theo Lee and Romell Barrocks-Bedeau.

TINA tells the life story of the legendary Tina Turner, focusing on her tumulus early years her relationship with her first husband, Ike Turner, and her rise to stardom. The musical premiered in London in April 2018 and received three Olivier Award-nominations including Best New Musical and Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Adrienne Warren. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for originating the role of Ike Turner in the production. The production will transfer to Broadway this Autumn with Adrienne Warren reprising her acclaimed role in New York.

TINA is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. TINA features choreography by Anthony van Laast,  set and costume design by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
