Further lead casting has been announced for the West End premiere of WAITRESS, opening at the Adelphi Theatre in February 2019.
Joining the previously announced Katharine McPhee as Jenna will be Marisha Wallace as Becky, Laura Baldwin as Dawn, Peter Hannah as Earl and David Hunter as Dr Pomatter. Wallace is currently starring as Effie White in DREAMGIRLS at the Savoy. Laura Baldwin’s credits include lead roles in EUGENIUS! and BIG FISH at The Other Palace. Hannah’s previous roles have included COCKPIT at Scotland’s Royal Lyceum Theatre. Hunter has performed lead roles in the West End including Guy in ONCE, and Charlie Price in KINKY BOOTS. More casting for the show is still to be announced.
Additionally, Katharine McPhee confirmed in a tweet that she will be performing as Jenna in the West End for the first three months of the run, presumably through its initial booking period to 25th May.
The Broadway hit, written by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, has its West End premiere at the Adelphi Theatre from 8th February. WAITRESS, which is still currently running on Broadway, is based on the 2007 film of the same name that starred Keri Russell. It follows Jenna, a woman in a small American town with a talent for baking pies with plans to compete in a contest. These plans are hindered when she unexpectedly discovers she’s pregnant.
WAITRESS opened on Broadway Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016 following a tryout in Boston. Directed by Diane Paulus and starring Jessie Mueller, the piece went on to be nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The same production transfers to the Adelphi early next year.
WAITRESS runs at London’s Adelphi Theatre from 8th February and is currently booking until 25th May. Tickets are on sale now.
